Tax requirements vary by location and relationship. The following is not tax advice.
Most US-based freelancers on Gratify should not require a 1099 from you. Why? Under the Internal Revenue Code Section 6050W, you don’t need to file Form 1099-MISC for freelancers paid through Gratify because you’re not paying your freelancer directly.
With this said, all tax obligations are the sole responsibility of the buyer and freelancer. We recommend that you consult a tax professional for more information regarding tax requirements based on your relationship with the freelancer and location.
